All world language curriculum offerings at Holy Trinity Catholic School benefit from differentiated instruction using traditional spoken and written language as well as integrated technology, including desktop and laptop personal computers, SMART™Boards, and Apple® iPads.The students also use recordings of their own voices to enhance their speaking proficiency.

In addition to classroom instruction time and homework that includes exposure to the target language through the online textbook and supplementary resources, extra help sessions for all world language students is offered once a week after school.

Level 1 French

This is a two-year sequence intended to cover equivalent content of a Level 1 High School French course, allowing for a slower pace and the freedom to spend additional time on challenging material. Text and workbook materials are entitled, Bien Dit! (Red, 2013). This textbook series includes online access with a personal student tutorial.

The Target Language focus and assessment goals include:

  • interpretive listening,
  • interpretive reading,
  • interpersonal communication,
  • presentational writing, and
  • presentational speaking.

Basic vocabulary, verb conjugation, geography and culture are stressed and lead to new vocabulary and verb conjugation in French context, including irregular verbs and introduction to the simple past tense in French.

Level 1B French:

This is the second year of the two-year sequence outlined above. Students will study the target language using textbook and online materials with more in-depth exploration of speaking, reading and writing French, introduction to the simple past tense, and more rigorous practice with the passé composé in various contexts with access to comprehensive, online practice.

Level 2 French:

This is the first year of a two-year sequence intended to cover equivalent content of a Level 2 High School French course. Text and workbook materials are entitled, Bien Dit! (Blue, 2013). The study of the French language becomes much more rigorous in the areas of reading comprehension, written accuracy, speaking proficiency, and listening comprehension. More advanced vocabulary, verb conjugation and further study of geography and culture are emphasized.

Level 2B French:

This is the second year of the two-year sequence outlined above. The ability to use the present, past, future and imperfect verb tenses for all proficiency goals listed above is emphasized. Students will also be able to use reflexive verbs.

Level 1 Spanish

This is a two-year sequence intended to cover equivalent content of a Level 1 High School Spanish course, allowing for a slower pace and the freedom to spend additional time on challenging material. Text and workbook are entitled, Avancemos 1 (2013). This textbook series includes online access with a personal student tutorial.

The Target Language focus and assessment goals include:

Basic vocabulary, verb conjugation, geography and culture are stressed and lead to new vocabulary and verb conjugation in Spanish context, including irregular verbs and introduction to the simple past tense in Spanish.

Level 1B Spanish:

This is the second year of the two-year sequence outlined above. Students will study the target language with more in-depth exploration of speaking, reading and writing Spanish and progressively more advanced grammar, including irregular verbs and the preterite.

Level 2 Spanish:

This is the first year of a two-year sequence intended to cover equivalent content of a Level 2 High School Spanish course. Text and workbook materials are entitled, Avancemos 2 (2013). This textbook series includes online access with a personal student tutorial. The study of the Spanish becomes much more rigorous in the areas of reading comprehension, written accuracy, speaking proficiency, and listening comprehension. Increased focus on unit vocabulary, verb tenses including future tense and simple past tense verb formation in Spanish context, and stem change verbs, as well as further exploration of geography and related culture challenge these foreign language students.

Level 2B Spanish:

This is the second year of the two-year sequence outlined above. The ability to use the present, past, future and imperfect verb tenses for all proficiency goals listed above is emphasized and practiced through access to comprehensive, online resources.
